Beauty Rules 101: Revisiting the Basics

Instead of talking trends to try and the best new products in hair and makeup, lets go back to basics for a day and go through Beauty Rules 101. I realized recently that Ive been so entranced by the pretty colors of lipstick and the shiny new bottles of nail polish that Ive been neglecting the classic rules of beautythen, my skin started to turn on me for it. Gasp!

Lets talk about the best in beauty basics, the rules you just cant forget. Heres my guide

Moisture, moisture, moisture! Im talkin everywhere. You need to have a great lotion with SPF for your face and body and also some lip balm with SPF to protect your pout. It will keep your skin looking young for years, so dont skimp. Recently, Ive been missing moisturizing my eyelids. Today? Theyre totally peeling. Ick.

Ponytails and buns. There are rules, yall. If youre a messy-bun-on-top-of-the-head girl, then please hear me out. Your strands will start snapping from the hair bands, and all of a sudden, youll be fighting against flyaways. Eeek! So, make sure you mix it up when you tie it up. Ponytail in the back of the head messy bun loose side-braid repeat. You should be good and reduce the breakage.

Always wash your face. I dont care if youre dead tired and you can barely make it to bed! Youve got to splash the makeup off your face before hittin the hay. If you dont, youll wake up to a bunch of new pimples in the morning, or at the very least, clogged pores. If youre on vacay, in a pinch and need to zap a pimple over night without your acne cream? Use your toothpaste. A little bit will dry it up.

Conceal those blemishes. I have acne, a lovely relic from my childhood that Ive never been able to fully nix. If youre dealing with blemishes, too, then the trick is powder foundation. Use a liquid concealer or foundation, and let it mostly dry. Then, cover with a thin layer of the powder and a touch of bronzer to set your blemish-hidden complexion. Whenever I go to the dermatologist, the nurses always go, I dont even see any acne! Its a little trick thats served me well.
